TRANSPORTATION

TAXI
It is fairly easy to find a taxi in town and a trip through the city should cost around S$10. From the domestic and international airport the fare shouldn't cost more than S$80 for the 15 - 20 minute ride into town. It is best to agree on the charge prior to your trip and taxi costs are a small price to pay for convenience.

CAR RENTAL
Having your own vehicle enables you to get around a little more conveniently, especially with the added bonus of air conditioning. Try Supreme Car Rental (Phone 25009).

BUS
Buses operate in the form of minivans around town and are a good option for the budget conscious traveller. The vans run daily but you will only find the odd one after dark. The buses stop in designated Bus Zones along the roadside. The fare shouldn't cost more than S$4 around town.

SHIPPING
Travel by sea is the main form of transport for locals due to many villages being located near the water, as well as the lack of extensive road networks. Regular boat services operate multiple times per week to the more populated areas, while outer provinces may only be visited once every few months. The ‘fast boat’ options are recommended for overseas visitors with regular services to Western Province and Malaita.

The new 360 Discovery departs Honiara 8am seven days to Auki (Malaita), returning by 5:30pm. The route cruises through the Central Province taking in the stunning and famous Mboli Passage. Bookings can be made through their Honiara office location in the City Centre Building. Phone (+677) 20957 or email discovery@silentworld.com.au

AIR
Virgin Australia and Solomon Airlines operate international flights from Brisbane (BNE) Australia. Currently, flights are available on one of the airlines on every day except Saturday.

Solomon Airlines is the only national carrier operating domestic services within Solomon Islands. They operate daily flights to popular visitor destinations such as Western Province and Malaita as well as regular weekly flights to other provinces. Though only operating small inter-island aircraft, their safety record has a very good reputation. Domestic and international flights can be booked through their main office in the centre of town.
